Hollow Forms
Hollow Forms are actually bowls that have a permanent lid or cap made from a single piece of wood that have been hollowed out inside. Using special tools, the inside wood is slowly cut away and removed through the hold at the top. Patience is key in creating these forms because of the slow, interior wood removal. Hollow Forms are more “art” pieces than other types of wood turning and can instantly dress up a room or become a table centerpiece.
This beautiful piece of cherry is about 9 inches tall and 5 inches at the base. To highlight the tapered shape, I added the carved rings at the top surrounding the opening. This piece looks great as a centerpiece on your table. Don’t be upset when people pick it up to feel it because it is that inviting.
